The 2013 panel features a young couple fawning over their dogs. That’s a good point. A lot of people nowadays regard their pets as substitute children, which is something I detest. This used to be a phenomenon limited mostly to lonely old ladies but now I see lots of young White couples of child-bearing age pretending their pets are their kids. I guess they’re either too immature to commit to having a real kid or they’re just being selfish.
I really do love cats and dogs, but I never have lost sight of the fact that they are animals and always need to be regarded as such. They are NOT lifestyle accessories and they are NOT substitute children.
